The media
has been reporting stories about quality concerns with a number of
central Ohio builders. This web site is intended to share our
personal experiences with Duffy Homes, an Edwards Company, beginning
with the July 2003 purchase of our Duffy Home. We feel that it
is important to share our story with consumers and to encourage other
consumers to share their stories. Our experience has also taught
us the importance of researching recommendations proposed by a
builder.
Our
basement leaked sporadically from the time of purchase. We reported
the problems to
the builder numerous times, and they informed us that repairs had been
performed to prevent additional leaking. In the fall of 2004, our
basement walls cracked and began to leak on all sides of the
foundation. We promptly notified the builder and discussions began
regarding the appropriate repairs to be done. Even though we had
a guaranteed external waterproofing product applied at the time of
construction, Duffy Homes suggested they apply a waterproofing epoxy to the basement walls to prevent further water intrusion.
We became concerned
and hired our own engineers to evaluate our situation.
Much to our surprise, the structural and civil engineers noted many
problems with the construction of our home. These included paper
in the walls where they had expected to find rebar and mortar, and
structurally significant cracking, just to name two. Some of the
issues with our home are highlighted in the
photo gallery. If you would like to be
